Al Stewart: Kim's Corner

July 26

Posted on July 26, 2010

Fan's of Al's music seem to know quite a bit about music, and the history of music.  For that reason I thought it might be a good thing to remind folks that 2010 is the 100th anniversary of the birth of Django Reinhardt (http://www.redhotjazz.com/django.html). You can hear the influence of this giant of jazz most on "Between the Wars", but you can catch hints of it elsewhere in not only Al's work, but in that of Peter White, Laurence Juber and Dave Nachmanoff as well.  Reinhardt's skill is even more amazing when you learn of the fire that crippled his left hand when he was just 18.  So pour yourself a glass of a nice French red and toast one of the greats, whose influence still resonates more than 50 years after his passing.
